Fashion is not solely about designing and constructing garments it is a mixture of skills that demonstrate your adaptability, not only a professional approach to fashion design but the knowledge of political, social and cultural issues that influence and change current trends. Designing involves a number of processes; photography, fine art, textiles, and 3D structure to produce a succinct and mature approach to fashion. My portfolio demonstrates a unique and varied approach to fashion design with emphasis on illustrations and fabric dissection generating a detailed technique. Photography is a powerful way to emphasise fresh ideology, I have used this professionally to direct fashion shoots for my website, concentration and independent practice leading to the discovery of new genres.

What attracts me to study fashion is that I have the ability to see something potentially successful and innovative through inspirations that occur from the little things in the environment around me and immediately visualize the potential on the body; this is reinforced by my reliability and motivation. The fashion design course at Manchester demands consistent motivation and hard-work which is something I thrive on.  These are tools that demonstrate my enthusiasm to learn and most importantly, I make the most of every opportunity that is given to me.  I am eager to develop technical skills such as pattern cutting and valuable historical knowledge that will be important skills for the future.

The advanced facilities at Manchester allow for recognisable and beautifully tailored garments to be produced, this combined with a network of industrial support is what compels me to pursue my professional studies at Manchester where I can stamp my individuality upon.

This is a photograph of my lace dress I have produced for my genetics project, the lace ruffles are hand-stitched and layered delicately as the dress cascades into a fish-tail. The placing of the ruffles were generated from the idea of genetic engineering and reproducing cells.
This demonstrates varied illustrations for my genetics project but working with the concept of manipulating lace in different ways.
1. The illustration to the left is a manipulation of the original black top with short lace sleeves,  working with the theme of genetics and slowly modifying cells so after generating and repeating the lace this beautiful silhouette is created.
2. The illustration to the right is a reworking of a printed blouse ad by removing the sleeves and layering
This sketch book page is for the project transformation, working with the concept of colour transformation and ways to analyse the spectrum of colour and significantly the effect when colours are overlapped and the dimensions created.
The illustration portrays numerous designs for my body extension project, the extension was limited to the neck and the aim was to transform this body part with two materials allocated, in this case paperclips and polythene. The drawings are illustrated using tissue paper and graphite to emphasise the ephemeral qualities of the polythene and the gritty metal of the paperclip.

This is a life drawing using indian ink and a sponge.

1. The top sketch book page portrays a cell structure of dopamine, the brain sample on the left hand-side shows a healthy transmission of dopamine and to the right-hand side of the page is a cell structure that lacks dopamine and is commonly found in patients with Parkinson's disease. The idea is generated from the concept of mental and chemical transformation.

2. The page on the bottom left is an illustration of a vampire squid cephalopod using graphite, to the right is a hand-stitched sample of a veined cephalopod skin with coloured ink. Both of the sketch book pages illustrate the transformation that occurs in cephalopods during a heightened emotional state this causes them to change surface area and colour.
This is a an intricate lace illustration for my genetics project using ink.

The sunglasses in the photographs are part of an enlargement project where we took a chosen object and manipulated the individual components by a ratio of 1:5 and 1:10, so this abstract effect is produced. Another constraint had to be considered also that we could only use card and pins which affected the construction of the object and how versatile it became.
The photo's selected are from a series of 50 generated for an independent photography briefing where we had to choose one constraint in the photographs, I chose focus, this could be applied uniquely to a variety of different settings that appealed to me.
These fashion illustrations are for my genetics project, they portray the combination of lace and a elasticated black cotton fabric that has been manipulated and modified in order to generate a variety of designs.

These are photographs that demonstrate my draping on the mannequin for my transformation project, the garment has been intricately laser cut in order for the fabric to appear like a second skin.
